• Congratulations! to IM John Webster from Stoneville, NC who won the 2013 District 9 Open by edging out CM Gerry Lopez for 1st place in the tournament.  CM Gerry Lopez took 2nd place and also being recognized as the 2013 District 9 Champion and the 2013 California State Champion.  These two Masters dominated the tournament without losing a round except between themselves when Webster won a game off Lopez each time they played.
• Congratulations! to Ken Shultz from Cosby, TN, Steve Blackshear of Lawndale, CA, and Mel Tungate from Hollister, CA  who finish 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively in the 2013 District 9 Open Checker Tournament.
• Incidentally, Gerry turned 91 on February 14 and still playing master level checkers! tennis, etc.  2/07/2012 The Press Enterprise PE.com - "MURRIETA: Man, 89, is checkers king again"
• Ratings are from ACF, Before and After Ratings are the results of a player's rating before this tournament and after it was recalculated from this score-sheet by ACF rating processor, JR Smith.
• We played a double round robin, which the table above shows the first 5 rounds and rounds 6 -10 is their 2nd Round Robin being played 4 rounds on Monday, 3 rounds on Tuesday and 3 rounds on Wednesday.  The cash prize is the total paid out for the District 9 Open.
• "T" separates player's opponent from player's round game points: Draw is 1, Win is 2 points, Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.
• We give Gerry Lopez a huge "thank you" for his enormous effort in putting this tournament together with assistance from District 9 Manager, Mel Tungate.  I will add Gerry's tournament summary later when I receive it; otherwise, I think everything else should match as results and the payout schedule.
• I received a telephone call from John Webster Monday morning say, "I really missed a great tournament and a lot of fun in Las Vegas!"
• Mel Tungate wrote, "It was a real pleasure playing people of the ability of Gerry and John.  Both real gentlemen, and both wonderful players.  John was just a tad stronger – all four games between the two were hard fought, with tough positions.  I am still a terrible player, but it was a fun activity in all ways.  I do have a few pictures, including John and Gerry studying a very tough position."
